Yeah, he's working with pretty good basic material, but I figure it's like Michelangelo with a nice piece of marble :)
I can just see some distant future popular history of Amestris: "It is a popular conceit that the Elric brothers slept together because they couldn't find anyone else pretty enough, but that does a disservice to the depth of their relationship..."
