Great idea... and something I can see Ed doing too! I really don't think he could resist the suffering of someone who looks like Al, and go off to be 'selfish'.
Sometimes I'm not sure if Ed could resist ANYONE'S suffering and go off to do his own thing. He's too sweet and noble like that.
Ed knew the temperment; it left an ache in his gut, to see his own obsessive, self-consuming drive reflected in his younger brother's gentle face and demeanor.
