Mikke's Roy/Ed Recs

This was originally going to be a comment in kaltia's LJ, but it became too long, so it's its own post now.

Well, you asked for Roy/Ed, so here's Mikke's Quick Tour of Roy/Ed in FMA. :D

Start with the oldies but goodies. Ciceqi, aka Sleeps With Coyotes. If you're the sort of Elric fan who can't shut out that 'but where's Al?' voice, then Coyo is the author for you -- all her stories have Al where appropriate, and just as he should be.
-Situation Normal. Excellent get-together fic. Also worth reading just for the everyone-wants-Ed angle.
-Quick Studies. Another get-together, absolute sap. Much love.
-Altered States Arc. Albedo, Citrinitas, Rubedo. This was the fic that got me hooked on Roy/Ed. It dives right in; it's not a get-together, when the story opens they're already going at it like bunnies so to speak. But it's worth reading in equal measure for the hawt, hawt magic!sex, for the flashes of humor and extreme sweetness, and for Al just being himself -- it also happens to be a Restore-Al fic. :)
-Disarmed. Mmm, automail-less-smut. That's basically all it is. Who needs more?
-Contact. Another Roy/Ed get-together. Hee. This one's a little more drama.
-Metal. Ed + piercings = extra sexy. Roy thinks so too.
-Growth. Ed grows. Hee.
-Heart and Hands. Ed/Roy/Al threesome. Very sad and sweet, but not my favorite of hers. You might like it better.
-The Soldiering Life. Roy-centric, but features chibi-Elrics. And Ed in a miniskirt. Though not at the same time.
-Foreplay. Short, but a must-read, even for the non-Roy/Ed-fan.
-Accidents Happen. Mmm, Ed with bunny ears.
-Settling, parts 1 and 2. Another get-together. Bonus Al/Scieszka. <3

Now, in my (totally unbiased!) opinion, Coyo is the best there is when it comes to Roy/Ed. She has the best characterizations, she strikes the best balance between realistic, poetic, sweet, dramatic, and funny that I've ever seen done. However, this doesn't mean that other people's works aren't also excellent. ^_^

Branch. Found at your friendly local Touka Koukan archive. Another classic Roy/Ed writer. Her specialty is poetics, IMO.
-Circumstances arc. Roy seduces Ed. Why? Because the script tells him to, that's why. They both think it's silly, but hey, it pays the bills. Despite the humor and meta, a very hawt seduction scene involving not one, but two fast cuts. Anyway, that's just the first one. Subsequent fics in the arc involve variations on position, role, and scene, some sweetness, more hawtness, and some plot towards the end.
-Ever arc. A nice, slowly played out get-together set after an Al-restoration. Ed rejoins the military, under Roy's guidance, and they grow closer. And have hawt sex.

devils_devotion. A definite change in atmosphere from Coyo and Branch. Her writing is more about pron and angst. She's really just got the one, Play on Nerds, which has attracted quite a following. Main attraction is, as has been said, omgI'mapedophile!Roy angst.
[edit] She's done more stuff since this entry was posted. Check out Damage Control, not explicitly Roy/Ed but breathtaking all the same, Moonshine, and about a zillion drabbles. More stuff in her memories.

Harukami. Another local. Her specialty is largely in ficlets, with some excellent humor on the top. And she's done a lot. A lot a lot. I'd die before I could list all the good ones. But my favorites are:
-The Bare Necessities and The Necessities of Survival. If you never read any other fic in this fandom, read these. And die.
-Housewarming. Mmm, seductific.
-Matchmaker. Meddlesome Hughes. Excellent read.
-Little Revolutions. Wacky hijinks involving Scar and half-naked Ed. Can't go wrong.
-As long as we're doing Harukami, Sensation. No pairing, Al-centic. Creepy as all get out.
-Throw Away the Key. Can't go wrong with chained-up-Ed.

nekojita. I consider her Roy/Ed works to be up next to Coyo's in terms of balance and quality, but the difference is she's only done a very few. In fact the only linkable ones are Party Games, and Home Sweet Home, second-place-winner in the first steelandsparks contest. Features beat-up!homesick!Ed and terriblyworried!Al. Yum.

What else, what else... A few individuals here and there that stuck out at me. Whitecat's Scars. Porny yum. Talya's Many Happy Returns for genderswitch and preg. :D granate's Testing Day is I think the best, funniest rendition of the Roy-Ed competition dynamic I've ever seen. Bri's In Entirety for sweetness, and also a restore-Al fic.

Uh... That's all I can think of for now. To any non-kaltia people reading, if you know some goodies that aren't on this list, and aren't by sockren or kalikamaxwell or any of the other Sins, go ahead and comment with'em. I have likely already read them, but hey! Always new treasures.

[later edit] A few extras. Who's On First by anax, and basically everything by velvet_mace; a Roy/Ed smut trio here, here, and here, and a long, PG-13, plotful, Roy/Ed inclusive fic here. Roy faces some consequences for, y'know, molesting a minor under his command in Death of a Ladies' Man by cephiedvariable. And finally, Unsaid, by Mistress Quickly, a very nice positive note to end your Roy/Ed reading experience on. ^_^
