June music meme Day 4
Jun. 7th, 2010 10:48 pmDay Four - A song that makes you sad: Pearl Jam, "Jeremy"
One of the unexpected benefits of karaoke is that when you go with other people, you get to hear songs which you then want to go download. So it was with this song, "Jeremy." Even before I read the lyrics and looked up the incident that this song was based on, I could still hear the sorrow and disaster in the dirge-like chorus line. I was in high school when Columbine happened, so, yeah, it shaped my view of the world forever.

June music meme Day 5
Jun. 7th, 2010 11:40 pmDay Five - A song that reminds you of someone: Rob Thomas, "Her Diamonds"
I don't know what inspired this song, but to me it's obviously a man singing about the woman he loves, who is battling depression. As such, it always makes me think of my brother-in-law.
