Roy/Ed fluff drabble
Jun. 29th, 2005 11:41 amTitle: Expressions
Rating: PG, worksafe
Word count: 100
Edward Elric is quite attractive, but that's no novelty. Roy knows many beautiful people, including the one in his mirror, but he's long since learned that this beauty is as shallow as the skin it's built on.
It's only Edward who's stopped him, held his attention. Because every time he thinks he's memorized every facet of Edward's beauty, his mood changes, and there's another one to study. It seems there's no end of them.
Edward Elric has many expressions, and Roy's made it his goal in life to learn every. Last. One.

Was thinking tonight how sometimes in my writing I have to catch myself, thinking "Whoa there, tone it down. Ed isn't THAT attractive."
Then I look at a screencap, or a piece of official art, and I'm reminded that YES. HE. IS. HE REALLY IS THAT ATTRACTIVE.
And a large part of the attraction lies in his expressiveness. He has a truly amazing range of emotion and he shows each one acutely -- and they're ALL attractive. X3 Ed has the unique ability to look good in every situation, every pose, every emotion, and every outfit.
(Well, I may be a bit unfair in his favor, because those poses where he DOESN'T look beautiful, I find him appealing and cute. Yes, including the afro. I guess it's just love-colored glasses.)
This may be one of the first anime fave-chars for which this is true. I loved Yohji as much for his snark and angst as for his whorishness, but he was actually surprisingly HARD to get looking good. When he DID look good, he looked VERY very good, but in most lighting he looked pretty awful. Ah, that's what you get with cheap art.
And for Duo -- well, my Duo love will never fully die, but I admitted long ago that he was not half so attractive in official art as he was made in fanart in doujin. Ed, surprisingly, usually looks as good or better in his official style as he does in fanworks. Not that the fanart isn't wonderful or gorgeous or very, very fun to look at -- but it's hard to get the right mix of sturdily handsome, childishly cute, and ethereally beautiful.

Date: 2005-06-29 11:51 am (UTC)That's an incredibly sweet and cute little drabble. ^_^
And, wow, Roy sounds smitten there too. <3 <3 <3 Complete love.
As for the fan-ing part, I am in total agreement... Ed is expressive and he is really damn attractive.
I also have to admit agreement on the Duo thing, as much as I adore the guy. Fanart Duo is a lot different than official art Duo. Sad, really. T_T
*melts*
You are up early today! :o

And besides, it gave you a chance to have Roy be a bit egotistical. :D

Date: 2005-06-29 12:01 pm (UTC)Yes, Ed's character design is love on so many levels. I think another part is the eyes. It goes along with the expressiveness. For some anime characters, their eyes can show about five emotions, but Ed's adapt with pretty much all of his moods. And the face...*fangirl-ish swoon*
Ah, Duo. ^^; Duo was an attractive character, but the official art just didn't do a lot of justice to as what the fanart did. I've seen that with lots of anime, but FMA is pretty equal with Ed's attractiveness.

I want to find me an Elric to marry so I can have cute Elric babies. ;_;

Date: 2005-06-29 01:40 pm (UTC)You may be surprised, but I'll agree about Duo, too. I think in the series he was partly there for comic relief, so he has some very weird expressions. He looks excellent in EW, though. My love for him is based more on his personality than his looks. ^_~

Date: 2005-06-29 10:20 pm (UTC)The amazing thing about Duo was what the fans who fell in love with him made of him, really. His part in the original series wasn't all that big.
EW art was prettier than series art just overall.

Date: 2005-06-30 05:26 pm (UTC)still wish he was real. anyway, i wanted to say something to mikkeneko. in your series of fics(the ones where you are extraordinarily cruel to edward, more so even than me, and that's saying something),since he's lost all his limbs, then can't he at least be made TALLER?
i mean, with both legs gone, winry can add a few inches, right? it's only fair.please?
anyway, i still think it's odd that i came up with a lot of the same situations with no prior knowlege of your fic in the first place. and i've since found others that follow the same guidelines as well. what is it about this fandom that makes us torure hagane no in the same way, over and over?
the case in point usually has something to do with both envy and the gate...er...having their way with him...

Date: 2005-07-05 12:43 pm (UTC)mine is on adultfanfiction.net.
it's called 'hagaren:pain and pleasure' by elriconeechan. you'll see what i mean.but i really did come up with it independantly of any other fic...i still can't understand why that happens to me so often.i think i mention it in the final disclaimer.however...
after i wrote it, i've been too embarrased to look at it much...

Date: 2005-07-06 11:13 pm (UTC)I was flipping through one of the art books recently, and I was thinking - hey! They're not...they're not what I fantasized them to be when I was younger! OMG! But then I calmed down and realized that I had been looking at the characters (Wufei in particular, which surprises many, but hell, I obsessed over Episode Zero like squee and thus had my reasons) through fandom-shaded glasses; fandom thoroughly prettified (and distorted) them.
Fullmetal Alchemist is interesting in that I don't think that canon and fanon are that far - there is a distance, there is one in every fandom (series that have little to no fandom [*cough*ghostintheshell*cough*] notwithstanding), but nevertheless, much less than say GW.
*shrug* What does it matter? It's all good stuff we get out of it, na? :D
