blast from the past -- ranma 1/2
Jul. 10th, 2005 04:04 pmFanfic for a lazy day. I'd say "rainy day," but I don't think any of you want to read any of these while it's dark out. Please note that they're all quite long.
In case any of you have ever heard me reference any of these fanfics -- three prime examples of the really creepy, dark fic available in the fandom of a fundamentally light-hearted show. I could have named more. I've long marvelled at the phenomenon.
"Bliss" -- a Ranma 1/2 fanfic. You don't actually have to be familiar with Lovecraft to read this. I wasn't.
"Ill Met By Starlight" -- another Ranma 1/2 fanfic. Note that I did not reference the above fic as the ULTIMATE example of creepy, dark Ranma fic -- because THIS one is. Erk.
"Waters Under Earth" -- another Ranma fanfic. Slightly less of the creepy, more of the plot, but every bit as dark.
For more in this vein, check out Transpacific. At the very least, read "Ukyo Can Cook." When you get your stomach back in place, finish off with The Varaiyah Cycle -- still dark, but now comedy instead of angst.

Date: 2006-01-28 12:51 am (UTC)Now WUE I hope to read again, but WHEN my classes finish. And to quote
I do hope I could stumble on a WUE type of genre again, although not likely since writing in a WUE type genre is difficult and is rarely achieved.
