Mikke joins the BPAL craze?
Nov. 25th, 2005 02:51 amBecause of all the positive reviews associated with them, I recently got hold of a bunch of BPAL scent testers, (or imps as they call them.) I plan to give most if not all of them away as christmas gifts, but I figured as long as they were in my possession, I'd check them out to see if any of them really suit my fancy.
I'm posting this specifically for
sky_dark, who wanted to know what I thought of this particular scent (though anybody else interested in such things can check it out.) I don't, however, plan to make a habit of it. :) I know y'all don't stalk my blog to read perfume reviews!
[02:22am] mik|damp: considers testing another of the bpal scents. I'm freshly showered so I'm as blank a palate as I'll get
[02:25am] tavella: how have yours been so far?
[02:25am] mik|damp: I've only tried one -- O -- and I didn't like it as much as I'd hoped I would
[02:26am] mik|damp: it was sweet, all right, it was downright cloying
[02:26am] tavella: nods.
[02:31am] mik|damp: tries out Midnight
[02:32am] mik|damp: huh, I can't find any words to describe this right off, but it's not bad
[02:32am] mik|damp: lilac, maybe? maybe not
[02:33am] mik|damp: this reminds me of some of the incenses I've encountered in candle stores before -- not that it smells of incense particularly -- but it's including some of the kinds of smells that the incense smells tried to get at, does that make sense?
[02:34am] tavella: yeah.
[02:34am] mik|damp: I think this one reminds of of an incense that called itself "rain" -- a little like ozone, but in a pleasant way
[02:34am] tavella: aquatic!
[02:35am] mik|damp: I think I'm just not experienced enough in scents to identify what's behind this
[02:35am] mik|damp: goes to look up the description
[02:36am] mik|damp: An ethereal bouquet of night-blooming flowers. Evening primrose, ruellia, flowering nicotiana, wild petunia, panani-o-kai, night phlox, night gladiolus, moonflower and the elusive scent of Nottingham Catchfly.
[02:36am] mik|damp: I don't know what ANY of these flowers are supposed to smell like. xp
[02:37am] tavella: I've smelled some of them but I can't say I can conjure up smells in my mind.
[02:39am] mik|damp: Yeah, I'd definitely say aquatic. Like a soggy day, a heavy rain.
[02:40am] mik|damp: To take a leaf out of Herongale's book: the sort of rain that makes the day heavy and gray and oppressed and feel like winter, even if it's summer
[02:40am] mik|damp: but not in a bad way. :)
[02:40am] tavella: giggles.
[02:41am] mik|damp: heavy rain over flowers, maybe. soaked vegetation
[02:44am] mik|damp: it seems to get more flowery as it dries
[02:48am] mik|damp: If I was going to rate this on a scale of 1-5, I'd give this one a three or a four (O would be a two.)
