So, I'm back from Anime Expo (somehow not actually having announced that I was going, eheh.) I no longer have the youth and energy to do con reports, so I'll keep it brief. I spent basically the entire con hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] cryogenia, [livejournal.com profile] sarubaito, and [livejournal.com profile] wiccat. Paku Romi cancelled, which was emo, although actually I didn't get out of the registration line in time to make when her panel would have been. Emo. I didn't bother to go to the CLAMP panel -- too freaking huge and I didn't care enough. I did end up going to the AMVs, which rocked much more this year than last year, with only a few FAIL entries (unlike last year's, which included an awful lot of FAIL.) The AMVs started over an hour late, but they filled up the time with a truly amazing martial arts performance competition.

I also ended up going to the Masquerade the next night, the first time I've ever really attended a masq from beginning to end and if that was indicative of the category, probably the last as well. It was mostly full of FAIL. There was an annoyingly high number of video game to anime entries -- just about half -- almost no games or series that I knew or cared about, and most of the skits were... well... completely incoherent and not at all entertaining. If I didn't suck at cosplay so badly, I would have entered just to have a damn bit of good writing in there, bah.

Speaking of cosplay, I did do that; there was a lot of frenzied costume-making on Friday night (and Saturday in the badge line!) but ultimately my Sloth costume ended up doing about what I wanted it to do, if not what I hoped it might accomplish. Cosplay photos, of myself and others, can be found here. Most of them were taken at the FMA photoshoot, which, just like AX itself, was huge and terribly organized but ultimately fun; but there are a few from around the con as well. I would draw your attention to the two photos and one screencap of the twin redheads in the blue jackets; those costumes, as well as one particularly sparkling AMV, have instilled in me a burning desire to see OURAN. OURAN OURAN OURAN. Hurrah for the Hikaoru Twins.

I did have a lot of fun. I seem to be at the stage where I enjoy room parties and hanging out with other fans more than con events, although that might be a function of anime expo programming/organization, which sucks serious rocks. I didn't even try to attend any of the panels this year; 'fan panels' were a nonexistant entity. Mostly I made do with the AMVs, the Masquerade, the FMA photoshoot, the dealer's room and artist's alley, and cosplay. My own cosplay was for the most part quite eclipsed by [livejournal.com profile] cryogenia's cosplay, seen in the above gallery link as The Gate. :D

I'm not sorry I went, but I think this would be my last AX even if not for the going-out-of-the-country thing. In fact, I said the same thing last year, but then they said Paku Romi would be here this year. Emo emo!

I need an Ouran icon. Twinsly. And a Mai-Hime icon and a Ghost in the Shell icon also would not go amiss.

I no longer have the youth and energy to do con reports,

Say what now???

But seriously, I don't know why you don't like getting your picture taken. You looked either cute or sexy in all the pics I saw.

I think that really does come with age and number of cons visited in previous years - that's how I've been the last two. I'd rather hang out, go see the things you did, and people watch than attend any of the panels. So many of the panels are just repeats of previous years, or just plain badly run. And standing in line for hours and hours on end for a panel that ends up sucking just.. well. Sucks.

Well, there you go. I never thought to call your cell, as each person in turn asked me where you were, as if hosting you last year meant I knew your whereabouts this year. Would've nice to at least waved in passing, though like you I attended few actual con events.

The amusing detail is that I told several folks that I would've attended the AMVs if you'd been there to drag me like you did last year, but lacking a Mikke, the AMVs therefore lacked me.

Eh, well.

It's a shame, because they were much better this year, too! No damn "behind blue eyes" stuff.

Er.... unsigned comment is?

Sorry, that was me, not logged in & forgetting to sign. Yeah, the "behind blue eyes" will remain an agonizing memory. The only thing that might motivate me these days is a chance to re-watch Nescaflowne. Hell, I'd love a copy, if only one were available.

Alas, I don't think I've ever seen it even once. Do you think you might be on AIM today? I have a couple things I want to ask you.

I only went on Saturday. I was in that damn registration line forever, too. Good to know I didn't miss Paku Romi as I was extremely bummed at the time. I didn't get in to the AMVs for lack of tickets, although I did catch a small glimpse of Hyde at his interview. Great Pictures! ^__^

Tachikoma icon would actually be awesome! I bought a Tachikoma plushie at the con. ^_^

>_>

How about a Tachikoma "Bitch, please" icon? Or maybe, "Human, please"?

I saw the tachikoma plushies too late & couldn't find one for CP, so I got him a tachikoma patch instead. He's currently contemplating what to put it on.

You were really better off missing Clamp. They were 40+ minutes late getting people seated. (Some people had been in line 12 hours), Clamp stayed 45 minutes in what was supposed to be a 2 hour panel. They took 10 questions out of 1000 submitted, and all those were things you could have read in the Bio if you cared to. After 45 minutes of boring profile, they left without signing any autographs.

I am so happy I had to run the booth and only heard about it second hand from my roommate.

Yeah, I wasn't really interested in going to see CLAMP. I'm not a huuuuuge fan, and honetly, what would a panel seeing them have done for me? I did feel sorry for some of the people I was rooming for tho, who came to the con specifically to see CLAMP but couldn't get out of the reg line in time.

I reached that stage a while ago. I'm lucky if a con has one event/guest I'm truly excited to see.

I'm glad I didn't end up going to AX. I'd have gone just to see Romi Paku. What a disappointment!

I didn't know how else to reach you and thought this would be horribly rude as a comment on a ficpost, but I wanted to ask you a question: a few buddies from my FMA roleplay and I (www.fullmetalfolly.com) wanted to do a "dramatic reading" of your fic "The Miracle" at this year's Kumoricon. Feel free to deny us permission if you so choose, but I think it would be fun to see staged by several nuts like ourselves at this year's Fanfiction Bedtime Stories.

Wow, this is so belated, but I would be DELIGHTED to see that happen. :D It was initially written to be read aloud like that, but then the person who requested it cancelled their plans... so yeah. Just let me know when!

Kumoricon is in early September, I forget exactly what days... at any rate, I will film it for you and send you/mail you a copy. As I understand it, Cryogenia is going to be at the same event, doing the Movie in Fifteen Minutes thingamajig, so if you want me to tape that for you too...

Hahaha, no, I've seen the Conquerer of Shamballa in Five minutes live, thank you. Drunk, too. It was awesome. :)

OOOH!!! I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO SEE SOMEONE READ THE MIRACLE FOR 1205820498510819301389 BILLION YEARS AND I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE IS DOING IT AT KUMORICON BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST FOREVER.

XD

^_^ Glad you're happy about it. I've already discussed it with Rem, and she's given us a slot. Thank tobu_ishi for giving me the idea and introducing me to the fic in the first place; she'll be playing the part of Ed. Now we just need to find an Al tall enough to hoist her; Tobu's unfortunately vertically gifted, for all that she roleplays the li'l bugger, and even if our Al were on the right coast to come, I think Tobu has a foot on her at least...

It appears I'm going to be helping out a lot with improv-type activities, as well as Fanfiction Bedtime Stories, so if you're aiding with any of those, we will most likely be seeing a lot of each other. I can honestly say that I will look forward to meeting the Gate, which is not something people say that often.
