Long silence there, yes -- real life happened! I up and moved from Washington to California, and after the couple weeks it took to arrange everything and then get my feet back under me, I got out of the habit of posting. So let's resume!
This piece is the first of what eventually turned into a series -- so to avoid confusion, the story is called the "Curse of the Twins" and the series is called the "Ill Luck" series. The original story was titled "The Price of Ill Luck," and was partly inspired by Susan Dexter's book "The Prince of Ill Luck." In that book the titular prince, Leith, goes seeking a sorceress for help in freeing himself from an incessant curse of unluckiness.
