mikkenekoThis list is mostly gen fic, without pairings, although there's a few Roy/Ed scattered in there.

Vikki's fics are very good. Most of them focus on Ed and Al, often as children. If I had to pick a couple of favorites, it might be 'Family' and 'Shorn.'
Veatariel has some funny ones. 'Popping Shrimps,' 'Envy's Day Out,' and 'Photograph' all made me laugh.
Spinny Roses has some good but godawful depressing ones. I'd recommend 'Warm December,' but make sure you have tissues handy. 'Raptured Light' is another good one, but it's Roy/Ed, and not the Roy/Ed I'd advise starting out on.
Sol's stuff -- well, there's 'Find the Moon,' of course, which is a GW/FMA crossover. There's also 'The Perils of Coffee,' which is just damn funny. The 'Contraries' arc is still ongoing, and I'm always bugging Sol for a new chapter of Restraint of Desire, the second multipart fic in it. I'd definitely reccommend that one, it has action and plot and fun stuff.
Sockren writes smut. Pretty much all his stuff is NC-17. If you're into either Ed/Roy or Elricest, go back and check him out because his stuff is quite hot, but otherwise, pass him over. [later edit] New location for this author.
Sleeps with Coyotes rocks my world. I adore her stuff. You'll be better off browsing here: http://ciceqi.slashcity.com/FMA.htm, there's stuff there that isn't at her SS page. 'The Soldiering Life' is actually five short Roy-centric, what-if fics. Hm. On looking again, most of her stuff is Roy/Ed. I'd recommend 'Situation Normal' and/or 'Quick Studies'; both are get-together fics. And don't neglect the Kitty, Kitty arc, or 'Accidents Happen.' Bunny ears. Poor boy.
Pellaz is another author, like Vikki, whom I think you should read most of the stuff on her page. She also concentrates on Ed and Al's relationship, occasionally romantically, usually not. Many of them focus on them as children or in the period after the Accident before they left Risembourg. 'Omnes Mortes' is good, but sad; 'Soldier From the War Returning' is creepy, 'Make Gold of This' is just really sweet. My favorite is probably 'Perfect Circle.'
Kalika Maxwell is a friend of mine, and a pretty cool author. I recommend 'For Your Smile' and 'Gold and Charcoal...' the latter is a FMA/Ai no Kusabi fusion, a WIP, and there are no pairings so far. [later edit] New location for this author.
Jaelle's stuff is extremely cute and fluffy. Definitely read 'Unapproved Project,' 'Rescue,' and possibly 'Research.'
Branch's stuff is very good. 'Gone the Sun' nearly made me cry. The 'Success' arc is quite good, and gen. And I would recommend that you read the 'After' arc, which is possibly the best Roy/Ed getting together fic I've read, although Sleeps with Coyote's 'Contact' is also pretty close. Baka Neko's 'Little Red Cap' is exceedingly funny, as is 'Glowing Cone of Light,' despite the sex humor. (Or is that because of it?) I read the Rage of Swords arc, but it made me scream and blubber on my keyboard, so maybe not.
Speaking of sex humor, the following two fics are just so hilarious that they made me laugh myself out of my chair and bruise my knee on the floor. The Bare Necessities and The Necessities of Survival. Or, okay, maybe I'm just weird to have enjoyed them so much. X3
