1) I want to run a panel at Y-con this year.

I'm thinking what might be cool -- a panel on the differences between canon yaoi and inferred yaoi. Y'know, there are shows where the ghey is actually in the show, but the really popular fandoms seem to be the one where there's no outright ghei, and it's all put in there by the fans. Why is that? Discuss.

I think I could run a panel without much problem. Better at Y-con than some place like, say, Otakon, where there are sixty zillion people. Y-con is much more of a family atmosphere. (By which I mean, community, not little-kids family.) Whenever I go to panels at Y-con I end up talking almost as much as the panelist anyway. >_>;

I guess you have to apply... and stuff. Maybe the webiste would tell me more if it wasn't down.

2) I wanna cosplay Mosp from Sluggy Freelance at Otakon next year (or AX, if I don't go to Otakon.)

I seriously do. Unfortunately this will be very complicated and difficult. Why? Because Mosp is a giant snake-woman with snakes for hair. X_x I do not think my limited tailoring skills are up to this.

3) I have all this stuff and I want to distribute it places like MLs and LJ comms because I am a comment whore. unfortunately, I don't want to totally spam people and I can't think straight to coordinate it. *is scatterbrained*

*Pats* There, there. I'm sure it'll all be better in the end.

School computers won't let me see that picture (wtf? They'll let me read pr0n but won't let me look at an image?) but I'm sure that with a few days of not brushing your hair, you could achieve the proper 'wild, untameable, attacking-anybody-whole-walks-past-you' effect with the hair. As for the rest of the costume, HAHHAH you're screwed *runs for cover*

Nono. Her hair isn't just wild and tangly, it's two snakes. They talk.

... I have two pet snakes :D. I suppose I could lend you them...

o_o; But they wouldn't talk, so it wouldn't be all that much better. And also, eugh. No thanks.

Because the good stories don't have the gay. When they make an anime about the gay, it's usually sloppy and full of girl-boys. *shudders* Or it's very short and has a really small fandom you will miss if you blink. *hugs Nightwalker even if she's been kicked out of the fandom*

The only thing that looks like a gay anime of a decent lenght with plot is Kyou Kara Maou. I have some hope for it right now...

Exactly. But I'm sure I could pull a half-hour panel discussion out of that. :)

If you want to do a panel, and you offer, Y Con will probably let you. They ok'd me without even asking me any questions. You just won't find out if it's been accepted until the month before the con.

I think it's a good idea. If you gave out a list of canon-yaoi shows vs. inferred yaoi, that would be very useful. There are probably some fans who don't know all of the yaoi titles available.

Heck, I sure don't. Obviously some research would have to be done beforehand. XD

I think I'll offer. *nod* I just have to find a place/info on how to submit an application. And think of a better panel name.

Actually, that will be changing this year. Applicants will be receiving their notices much sooner.

That will be a big improvement. I had to scramble to prepare the booklets I handed out last year. ^____^

Sorry about that. Systemically it's easier for me to handle them all at once so I know who has been accepted and who hasn't. No one ever gave me feed back that it was inconvient until Tales of Anime last year, and it was too late to fix it then. If you have ideas, suggestions, or questions, PLEASE let me know! I want to serve you better, but unless people tell me what I'm not doing well, I cant change it.

Oh, please don't apologize. I was able to get everything done in time, and I really had fun running the Prince of Tennis panel. I'd consider doing another panel, if I go to the con this year (I might not since I want to save money for a trip to Japan in 2006).

The only suggestion I'd have is to try to let people know a few months in advance, if possible, and it sounds like you've already got that planned. Compared to a lot of other cons, Yaoi Con has some of the best panels I've seen. ^___^

Hmm. The shows about The Gay tend to be pretty short, for some reason, and it's hard to sustain a fandom where the focus is all on relationships (where there's really no plot). I wouldn't say this is true for me - I like writing Yuki/Shuuichi, for example - but some people have less fun messing around with established relationships. They get together in the series, so why bother?

And I say go ahead and spam. Everyone on LJ is pretty much a comment whore, I think. :D (Not me, no, of course not....)

Also, shows about The Gay often follow the established rules of SA/BL so closely that it may turn off people who are not familiar with or interested in those dynamics. *blink*

My favorite shows are those which are not all about The Gay but also have stories to them -- like FAKE, for example, or Ai no Kusabi, both of which are telling complex stories along with the progression of the relationship -- or even shows which don't explicitly state "they're banging" but clearly want you to think so, like Yami no Matsuei (hey, they never do more than hug on screen. No kisses even.)

A Mosp costume would friggin kick ass. Good luck with that!

It would kick so much ass! But it would be so hard. ;.; I don't even know how I'd start to make a full-length spandex body glove with scales. And the tail? How the heck would I do that? Just thinking about the hair makes me twitch. X_x

Date: 2005-02-04 06:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cephy.livejournal.com
Hmmmm.... well, the scales could be done with fabric paint, I'm sure. Perhaps metallic? Tail... stuffing and wire? I can see limited mobility being a problem any way you go, though. Hmph. You might have to have a horizontal slit in the skirt-thingie to let your feet through enough to shuffle around, though be able to retract them when you want to pose for pictures?

The hair might not be as problematic as you may think, if you treat it more as a helmet instead of hair... ;) The stuffing-and-wire idea might work for that, too, and then you could even re-pose your snakes whenever you felt like it.

... ehhehheh. Listen to me sound like I know what I'm talking about. Sorry.

Actually, these sound like cool ideas. :D It's just that it would basically be a handicraft project, rather than simply assembling the right articles of clothing -- and I am terrible at handicrafts.

I was thinking that it would basically be a dress with the tail for the train, and open below the knees. So if I wanted to pose for pictures, I could just get on my knees. :)

Sounds like a cool panel ^__^

So far, the main reason I've found that i prefer inferred yaoi rather than actualy yaoi is that actual yaoi manga/anime are too damn easy! They're like candyfloss compared to chocolate cake. They look good and taste sweet but don't really have as much substance. Its not the case all the time of course. And its just much more fun to work out yaoi pairings rather than have them done for you.

Gimme something like Demon Diary where I can work things about the characters out myself over FAKE where all the work is done any day!

Hehe, you know, when I said 'Discuss' I was being facetious. ^_^ Not that I really mind discussion in my journal. And you have a point about the challenge of it.

*shrug*

I'm not normally given a chance to discuss this kind of thing so I take a chance when its given. ^^

I've just been working something like this out for a while ever since I read Kizuna and Golden Cain and found out that despite the fact that they're yaoi, I don't enjoy them as much as my non-yaoi manga.

You uh...could ask me if you wanted. About what info you need to run a panel. I'm sorta in charge, so I could answer any of your questions until the site comes back up. And you already said something about wanting to co-panel Whats Your Kink with me...

Oh! I could? I didn't even know that you were on LJ, or what your username was. So... I guess I'm asking. :) What do you need to know to run a panel?

If discussing over LJ is awkward, you could drop me a line: cryzycyt at yahoo.com .
