I don't feel like retyping it in paragraph format, but this is something I'm curious about.

Warning: Episode 50 spoilers

[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: I still think Roy's plan was kinda dumb, y'know
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: he didn't HAVE to start a rebellion. he really didn't
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: explain to me what difference it would have made if Havoc had just sat up there pretending to be Roy, and Roy sneaks into the Fuhrer's house and kills him?
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: This recipe calls for no rebellion.
[livejournal.com profile] zalia: true
[livejournal.com profile] zalia: but Roy always has to be dramatic
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: I think the stated point of the rebellion was to draw more troops away from Central so that his path would be clear to the Fuhrer
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: except uh... the Fuhrer is the head of state
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: ANY troops they keep in the city will be guarding the Fuhrer
[livejournal.com profile] zalia: absolutely
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: So you're gonna have to sneak around them anyway.
[livejournal.com profile] zalia: yup... no chance of him taking them out
[livejournal.com profile] zalia: there's no logic to it
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: Hell, if Hawkeye was particularly on her feet, she might even have snuck him back up to the North border and they could pass off his injury as line of duty
[livejournal.com profile] zalia: that's a good idea
[livejournal.com profile] mikkeneko: I'm just sayin' it could have been done without throwing away his ambitions (and all the fangirls' fond hopes) of him as Fuhrer.

Seeing as he rebelled/mutinied/whatever the term is for leading an uprising agaisnt your commanding officer, I'm surprised they didn't have him shot. Even if they didn't know he was the one who killed Bradley, letting that sort of thing slide is not good for military discipline.

I wish I had links or something instead of my shaky memory.... At some point on fm_alchemist, regarding some article, somebody said it mentionned that Roy's injury wouldn't stop his mititary career(I don't think it said he will, just that he could go on). I seem to recall said article also confirmed Roy had lost his eye, so the fangirls were all sad.

I am still in WTF? mode with the whole eye thing. When the hell did he lose it? It's not like he got stabbed in l'oeil or anything.

Did he? I don't remember?! I didn't THINK so, at least.

*rewatches ep. 50?!*

Shot. Archer shot him. It creased his face and took out his eye.

Seriously? So he's all like...eyeless? XDDDDDDDD

I'm so evil. Gawd, I need to get my DVDs back and look for that part again.

Well, it only took out one. He still has the other.

Well, I'll have to go back and properly watch the episodes again (without all the fannishness with my friends this time), but I also had the idea that maybe Roy was trying to buy Ed and Al a little time. He knows Al is the Philosopher's Stone and they're both on the run from the military. His plan at least draws people away from searching for them.

It's not out of character for Roy, but I don't remember ANY mention of Ed and Al being any kind of motivation for this plan. But then, the subtitles I was working with at that time were kinda shaky.

No... it might be waiting for me when I get home today, though. If so I will be a centre of happiness and kindess and love! ~<3

If not my sick little brother, who was too ill to get more than an hour's sleep last night, will be cleaning the goddamn house by himself while I sulk in my bedroom. ¬_¬

I don't remember any mention of Ed and Al being motivation either... I'm just desperately trying to justify his plan so I don't start thinking about what a bloody stupid idea it was.

Roy's original orders involved going to the Drachma front and basically fighting a war there. Something that Havoc is (I presume) not qualified to do. Furthermore, Roy and Armstrong pretty much expected to be assassinated on the front and have it passed off as "in the line of duty."

The intent of the rebellion was, I think, threefold: to throw the military into confusion, to prevent Havoc from getting whacked while people thought he was Roy, and (IMHO most important) to make it easier for Havoc to maintain his masquerade for as long as possible. After all, it's easier to pretend to be Roy while you're sitting around in a tent than if people expect you to go out flamethrowing. :)

That makes sense... sort of. At least it provides a reason for Roy to go through with the plan. Even if I still think it was a plan with more cons than pros.
